10 on 10: April

For this month's 10 on 10 project, I chose to photograph a day at Balboa Park here in San Diego.  It is one of those places where you'll find many photographers on any given day, as it is a visual dream with the Spanish-Renaissance architecture and the stunning gardens!   In ten photos it's hard to capture all it's glory, but here are just a few!

At the Organ Pavillion

I rented a 45mm tilt shift lens for the day to try it out, though I believe I'll need much more practice to do the lens justice.

The gardens are in full bloom now!

The Banyan Tree

The Artist Village

The Artist Village is where different vendors from jewelers to gourd-makers have their shops set up and have their wares available for sale.   It's so great to be able to watch them in action as they create their art.

It's hard not to look up at these ornate buildings.

I'm drawn to the light and shadow in the columns and long expansive pathways that seemingly never end.

 El Cid

 The Gardens at Prado

I set out to capture the romance I feel at Balboa Park.  In addition to the beauty on the grounds, there is always live music, and many museums which include my favorite, The Museum of Photographic Art, as well as lovely places to eat, such as the ever elegant Prado.

Please check out the work of Micah Hewett, one of the talented photographers in our 10/10 circle!

The Lighter Side of the Sea

I wanted to use some of the textures from Kim Klassen's lovely Cloth and Paper set.  I shot my favorite subject, of course, the ocean (and the palm trees at the beach)!  Here I was at La Jolla shores where I go for long walks whenever I can.  The sky has been pretty amazing lately.

By the way, I used Kim's rue and minted textures!  Happy Tuesday!
